Overview:The ruin of Konye-Urgench is located in the north-western Turkmensistan, on the left bank of Amu-Daria River. There are many monuments mainly from the 11th to 16th centuries, including mosque, gates of a caravanserai, fortresses, mausoleums and a 60-m high minaret.
Kunya-Rugench(also called Konye-Urgench) was a major trade center on the Silk Route in central Asia from the 10th-14th century; and the capital of Khorezm region. The city was destroyed by Genhis Khan in 1221 and Timurids in 1372-1388 and rebuilt in both periods; the city lost its capital function and fell into decay in 16th century; it has been abandoned till to 20th century. In year 2005, the ruins of Kunya-Rugench of Turkmenistan has inscribed on the UNESCO List of World Heritage Sites.

The monuments testify to outstanding achievements in architecture and craftsmanship whose influence reached Iran and Afghanistan, and later the architecture of the Mogul Empire of 16th-century India.
Kutlug-Timur Minaret
The minaret can be dated back to 11th and 12th centuries, measures at height of 60 meters, making the highest and one of the most striking buildings inside the park.
Turabek-Khanum Mausoleum
The mausoleum is located at the northern part of ancient Gergench, known for its elegant design and the stunning tile decoration. It is the mausoleum of Turabek-Khanum, the wife of Kutlug-Timur (ruled between 1321 and 1336)
One of the most impressive architectural features of the mausoleum is the circular dome covering the main hall, whose surface is covered in colorful mosaic which forms intricate ornamental patterns consisting of flowers and stars, creating a visual metaphor for the heavens.
Kunya Urgench Museum (Dash Mosque)
The Kunya Urgench Museum is located in the brick-built Dah Mosque, a former madrasa constructed in the early 20th century. It turned to be a museum in 1990s and before that, it acted as a Koranic school. The museum displays focus on the history of the site, on traditional arts and crafts of the region, on the building tradition of Urgench, etc.
Other important sites in Kunya-Rugench are Tekesh Mausoleum, Kyrkmolla, Najm-ad-Din al-Kubra Mausoleum, Sultan Ali Mausoleum and Piryar Vali Mausoleum Complex, Il Arslan Mausoleum, Ibn Khajib Complex, Ak-Kala, Khorezm-Bag and so on.
