Saryarka - Steppe and Lakes of Northern Kazakhstan is listed as World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2008, the only natural world heritage site in Kazakhstan. It is part of the Kazakh Uplands, and comprises the Naurzum State Nature Reserve (located in Kostanay Province) and Korgalzhyn State Nature Reserve (located in Akmola Province).
The reserve is located in the central part of Turgai Plateau, within the steppe zone of Kazakhstan. The whole area is about 3077 sqkm of steppes, semi desert and forests. Korgalzhyn State Nature Reserve protects about 5432 sqkm of lakes, steppes and semi deserts. The wetlands are home to more than 300 bird species, like pelicans, cranes and the northernmost population of pink flamingos, which make it popular area for bird watching.
The site is also home to wildlife commonly found on the Kazakh steppe, including marmots, wolves, and the endangered saiga.
Hockey Club Saryarka
Hockey Club Saryarka often referred to as Saryarka Karagandy, is a professional ice hockey team based in Karagandy, Kazakhstan. They play in the Supreme Hockey League (VHL), the second level of Russian ice hockey, since the 2012-13 season. Before that they competed in the Kazakhstan Hockey Championship and won its 2009-10 season.
