The Petroglyphs within the archaeological landscape of Tamgaly is a petrolyph site located in Semirechye, Kazakhstan, right located 120 kilometers to northwest of Almaty, and takes about 2.5 hour's drive due to the not good side road condition.
The petrolygh site is set around the lush Tamgaly Gorge, arid Chu-lli mountain, contains over 5,000 rock carvings dating from second half and the second millennium BC to the beginning of the 20th century. Distributed among 48 complexes with associate settlements and burial grounds, the carving shows the husbandry, social organization and rituals of pastoral people.
There are many ancient tombs are found in the area, including stone enclosures with boxes and cists. People believed that the central canyon was once to be altars for sacrificial offerings.
