An orientation ceremony was held by Houbo College of Xinjiang Medical University on Sept 23 to welcome approximately 700 new students, according to Karamay Daily.

Zhao Jialin, the Party secretary of Xinjiang Medical University, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. He said that Xinjiang Medical University is the only independent university in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

Established in 1956, the university has cultivated large numbers of talent since its establishment, according to Zhao. Among the university's newer establishments is Houbo college, which was established in 2003. Relying on Xinjiang Medical University's education sources, the teaching quality of Houbo College continued to improve in recent years. More importantly, Xinjiang Medical University continually sends experienced tutors to Houbo College, aiming to improve teaching provision there.

Wang Jun, deputy mayor of Karamay city also attended the orientation ceremony and said that Karamay has made a big contribution to the country's petroleum industry in the last 60 years. The city is now focusing on development of its education and medical industries. Since 2012, the city has been cooperating with Xinjiang Medical University to promote the development of Houbo College.
