Xinjiang Discusses Public Transportation in Karamay

The Xinjiang Autonomous Region Urban Public Transport Innovation Forum was held in Karamay on Sep. 15.

During the two-day forum, managers of 13 urban public transport companies in Northern Xinjiang exchanged experience in urban public transportation.

As the organizer of the forum, the Passenger Transport Company of Xinjiang oilfield introduced its scientific management and innovation development, which gained high praise from the director of Xinjiang's Urban Public Transport Association.

The Karamay Passenger Transport Company was founded in 1997. It has 27 public transport lines with 418 buses, of which 280 burn environmentally friendly natural gas. There are 3368 shifts per day, traveling a total of 53,300 kilometer and carrying 99,300 passenger trips.

In the past five years, the municipal government and Oilfield Company have invested 106 million yuan ($16.65 million) in public transport with 352 new buses and 585 new parking lots. Eight bus stops became comprehensive parking lots.

The meeting included public transportation companies from Urumqi, Changqi, Wujiaqu, and other cities in Northern Xinjiang.

Hu Juan, vice president of Xinjiang's Public Transportation Association, was impressed with the company's "three zero goal": zero safety accidents, zero service complaints and zero operational delays.
