Shaanxi, which was home to the headquarters of the central committee of the Communist Party of China during the anti-Japanese War, will hold a number of activities to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory against the Japanese.

Zhou Kuiying, deputy director of the provincial heritage administration, said that a total of 14 exhibitions to commemorate the anti-Japanese war will be held from August 27 till September in 2016 in the old revolutionary sites all over the province.

From 1937 to 1947, the central committee of the Communist Party of China set its headquarters in Yan'an, a city in northern Shaanxi, to lead the anti-Japanese war and left a number of sites which are used for remembering the anti-Japanese heroes and patriotic education.

According to Zhou, there are more than 500 sites and ruins related to the anti-Japanese war and the province has spared not effort to protect the sites and preserve them.

In recent years, the central and provincial government invested a total of 220 million yuan ($34.4 million) to repair the 50 key revolutionary sites and enabled even more relics to go on display, the heritage official said.

Besides the exhibitions held at the revolutionary sites, Shaanxi also created an online digital museum to display the exhibits related to the anti-Japanese war, which let members of the public "visit" the revolutionary sites at home.

The revolutionary sites related to the anti-Japanese war attracted more than 10 million people every year and the exhibitions to commemorate the 70th anniversary of anti-Japanese war victory are expected to draw even more visitors, Zhou said.
