A modern food industrial park, set to be the largest food processing base in northern parts of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, started construction in Karamay early July.

The Karamay Food Industrial Park, located 1.5 km west to the Karamay Railway Station, will cover an area of 535,000 square meters, which is 10 times larger than the city's currently largest food factory.

The park has so far attracted investments worth 1.2 billion yuan ($193.3 million). It will have four sections, production, warehousing and logistics, comprehensive management and support services areas, integrating all the functions of a fully-fledged food industrial park, including inspection and quarantine, raw material storage, processing, product storage, logistics, R&D and technical training.

So far, four well-known local food companies have signed agreements with the park to set up factories, according to the director of the project, He Ying.
