China's First Golden Silk Jade Museum Opens in Karamay
China Golden Silk Jade Museum opened in Karamay, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, the jade's birthplace, on May 22.
Covering an area of 1,000 square meters in the Karamay Cultural and Creative Industrial Park, the museum is divided into exhibition and trading areas.
The museum currently displays 60 pieces of precious golden silk jade and jade carving works.
"The museum is aimed at letting people know more about golden silk jade and raising awareness to protect natural resources," said Ju Jianxin, director of the Karamay Golden Silk Jade Culture Association at the museum's opening ceremony.
Golden silk jade has great ornamental and collection value because of its unique color and texture. It is one of the top three jade varieties in Xinjiang, along with Hetian jade and Manas green jade.
The city of Karamay was named the "capital of golden silk jade" in 2014. So far, four golden silk jade trading markets currently operate in the city, involving more than 10,000 local people in the golden silk jade industry.
