Chinese Teenagers Show Talent at Xinjiang Science Festival
The Fifth Xinjiang Teenagers' Science Festival opened in Karamay Science and Technology Museum on April 28. The young science and technology talent in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region impressed the attendants with their skillful display.
Although teenagers' inventions and creations vary, they all had a common theme: inspired by daily life to make life easier.
Yin Hang, a student from Kuitun No 3 Middle School invented a "new" umbrella, whose handle can be folded to protect the body from getting wet. Shi Jialu, a student from Korla No 1 Primary School, showed his improved small iron pot which makes it easier to filter oil residue and clean. Erkin Wosmen from Turpan Shanshan County No 1 Middle School made an electronic lock, which can only be unlocked by a phone call rather than a key.
Students came up with innovative inventions such as water purifier, spill-proof pot cover, auxiliary device for watering flowers, water faucet cover, dough leavening machine, singeing machine, multi-function pacifier, climbing rope and voice controlled shower heads and so on.
Sci-fi paintings
The science festival also showed the prize-winning science fiction paintings by Xinjiang children.
The paintings involve all areas of life. People can directly extract processed nutritious milk from cows in "future milk processing plants"; the "future air purifier" can purify the air by forming multiple spherical links; "night vision binoculars" allow people to see the whole world at night; "corn harvest machine" can separate kernels while harvesting corns; "super car" can absorb the geothermal energy and convert it to automotive power.
"These works display children's rich imagination and creativity. They can be inspirations for new inventions," said Fu Jianjun, the head of the delegation from Wusu city in Xinjiang.
Enterprise participation
The science festival also attracted many domestic and Taiwan enterprises to participate in the exhibition and show their scientific and technological achievements, including Shenzhen BDS Technology Co, Brodex Lego Robot Center and Aisite Science and Technology Innovation Laboratory from Urumqi, capital city of Xinjiang, and Taiwan Gigo Toys.
It was the third time that Aisite Science and Technology Innovation Laboratory to take part in the science festival. This year, the laboratory brought various patented high-technology products to the exhibition.
"We have models to show the operating principles of Shenzhou spacecraft, magnetic levitation trains and engine," said Zhan Caixing, the head of the Aisite Science and Technology Laboratory. "Our aim is to get teenagers interested in science and new technologies as well as improve their practical ability. We provide them with tools and instructions to make models. In addition, we teach them related patent knowledge," he added.
