Xinjiang Huiyuan Ancient City Promotes New Tourist Route
Tourist shuttle buses appeared in Huiyuan ancient city, located in Huiyuan town in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, during the International Workers' Day holiday from May 1-3. The buses were introduced by Huiyuan's local tourism bureau to facilitate visitors.
Huiyuan ancient city, a historical and cultural city in China, promoted the vehicle tour which resulted in adding six new inter-zone vehicles and ten recreational bicycles. The city received more than 3,000 tourists during the 3-day holiday.
The city also made efforts to encourage folk tourism and enable visitors enjoy carriage tours with tour guides and interact with people of local ethnic groups.
Huiyuan ancient city was once the political, military, economic and cultural center of Xinjiang during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). The Qianlong Emperor (1711-1799) designated the city as "Huiyuan", which means that the emperor's concerns benefit the region regardless of his distance.
Its famous attractions include the drum and bell towers, Ili's generals' mansion, a Confucius temple, the former residence of Lin Zexu, a politician and poet during the Qing Dynasty. The city's Ili historical border museum is another highlight and shows the history of the Ili people when they attempted to maintain Xinjiang's stability and border security.
