Gansu Jiayuguan City Promotes Four Travel Routes

The city of Jiayuguan in Northwest China's Gansu province plans to promote four travel routes in 2015, according to a press conference held on April 20.

The press conference addressed the issues of introducing Jiayuguan city landscaping. Chang Shouyuan, deputy mayor of Jiayuguan, pointed out that the city government will concentrate on constructing cultural and tourism projects worth of billions of yuan, including a culture and art center, where galleries and exhibition halls will be clustered.

The travel routes proposed include a route retracing the Silk Road via travel sites such as Mogao Grottoes and Flaming Mountain and a cultural tourism route stretching along the Hexi Corridor and covering scenic sites like Mati Temple and Tiantishan Grottoes. Hexi Corridor is a historical route which used to connect northern China and Central Asia for traders and the military. Visitors can also choose to go to the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center and Qilian Mountain.

In addition, Jiayuguan city will launch promotion activities providing ticket discounts to locals. The city government will also step up its efforts to develop catering, accommodation and other tourism related industries in order to change the tourism industry from merely depending on ticket sales to a comprehensive tourism economy.
