Mr. Liu Xinjun luckily became the one millionth traveler of Xi’an Xianyang International airport as KE 807 landed safely on the airport, which symbolized that the annual through put of international travelers of the Airport exceeded for the first time one million, scoring a record high in the 33 years history of Xi’an Port.

The lucky traveler becoming very excited
At 11:45 yesterday morning, after the safe landing of KE 807 from Seoul to Xi’an, Liu Xinjun the traveler followed other travelers out of the plane. At this moment, he was greeted by the ground crew with a bundle of flowers: “Good morning, congratulations on your becoming our one millionth international traveler of the year.” “Thank you! I am the one millionth! Thanks, thanks a lot!”, Mr. Liu wore a broad smile on his face.


“I never expected that, and I am very excited”. The 38 year-old traveler was the vice president of a China-Korea joint venture in our city. “some of our staff travel to the ROK almost every month on business. It is very convenient to travel to the ROK, only less than 3 hour’s flight.” As the one millionth lucky traveler, Liu Xinjun expressed the hope that the Airport may explore even more international air routes so that more international travelers may be attracted to Xi’an for tourism and sight-seeing so that they may better understand the long history and abundant culture of Xi’an.

One million is a historical record high of the past 33 years
In recent years, the Airport has speeded up its air route deployment, and opened 4 regular direct air routes to Paris, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Moscow this year. Currently, a total of 25 international airlines on 27 international (regional) air routes to 23 cities every day took more than 3,000 travelers worldwide.    

With the increase of international routes, passenger throughput during the 12th Five-Year-Plan period has increased from an annual 30,000 to a yearly number of more than one million, up by almost 40% per year, and the proportion of international travelers also increased from 2.5% to 3.5%. “The number of international traveler this year has exceed one million, an increase of 33% as compared with that of last year.” According to one of the leaders of the Provincial Public Security and Frontier Corp, this breakthrough of over one million international travelers was also a historical record high in the 33 years history of Xi’an Port.

Building an international hub airport opening westward
In order to fulfill the task of building vigorously an international hub airport opening westward, the Airport in the recent two years has enlarged the international hall, newly added international transfer services, make transformation to the international airside concourse so as to provide quality services to international travelers. With the newly operated international freight depot in the freight transportation area, the capacity of the Airport to handle freight and mails reached 60,000 tons a year. And it is expected that with the operation of the international airside concourse in next March, the Airport could further enhance its capability in securing international (regional) airlines.

Centering around the effort of Shaanxi to build the new starting point of the Silk Road, the Airport will try its best next year to open air routes from Xi’an to Almaty and Rome so as to build connectivity among cities along the Silk Road Economic Belt as well as in the starting and ending cities; open non-stop flight from Xi’an to Tokyo and Los Angeles, strengthen air routes to Paris, Moscow, Tokyo, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore， etc. so that the throughput of international travelers may exceed 1.35 million a year. In the future, the Airport also plans to open air routes to Maldives, Osaka, Gaoxiong, Macao and some others.
