Supermarkets in the Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone (Toutunhe district) have recently been witnessing peak season, local media reported on Feb 6.

Consumers are flocking to stores and supermarkets in Toutunhe as special purchase areas for Spring Festival are positioned conspicuously in most outlets. Posters with promotion information are everywhere, creating a festive atmosphere.

To prepare for the upcoming Spring Festival, Xinjiang Vanguard has been stocking ample supplies of goods since last month, especially daily necessities. It provides various choices of gift boxes suitable for customers, relatives or friends, as a tradition of the special festival.

Chen Dezhi, general manager of Hahon International, said that the company has been stocking goods for Spring Festival since last November and has collected nearly 20,000 product varieties from all over the country. This week should witness a shopping spree in Urumqi and its surrounding regions.

Dong Zhangshan, manager of fresh product division of the supermarket, said that aside from common items like peanuts, sunflower seeds and sugar, there are goods with unique local characteristics. The volume of goods available this year increased by 20 percent over that of last year.

Chen Dezhi said that during the peak season, staff members will park their cars on the parking lot on the fourth floor to increase convenience for customers.

The parking lot in Wanda Plaza offers 1,500 parking spaces. Customers can park in the parking lot above ground free of charge.

Statistics at Hahon International reveal that currently the daily number of its customers is between 15,000 and 20,000 people. The upcoming week will see a daily flow of 20,000 to 30,000 people.
