Dunhuang Yardang National Geological Park Shines in Gansu
Dunhuang Yardang National Geological Park, located northwest of Dunhuang city, is famous for is magnificent windswept rock formations. Also known as the ‘ghost city’, the geological park is home to beautiful landforms that could be mistaken for the ruined foundations of an ancient desert city.
In 2015, the park became part of the Global Geoparks Network, which is supported by UNESCO. The spectacular sights in Dunhuang Yardang Geological Park include geomorphologic, geological and sedimentary tectonics relics. The park covers an area of 2,067 square km and is composed of the Yardang landscape area, Singing Sand Mountains and Crescent Moon Lake scenic spot. It is also home to a cultural heritage site.
